Another journal rejected your story. Let it go.
Another agent said “no thanks.” Let it go.
Another potential girlfriend won’t answer your calls. Let it go.
Another writer published a novel on the same idea you’ve been kicking around for years. Let it go.
Another potential client decided to go with another attorney. Let it go.
A paying client went to another lawyer who convinced her you weren’t doing the job, even though you were. Let it go.
Don’t sweat it. Don’t lose sleep. Don’t worry about your life meaning nothing in the end.
Let it go, brother. There are things you can do something about in this world and things you can’t. In fact, the things you can do nothing about will drive you nuts for that exact reason.
Let it go. I’m not quoting Frozen here, I’m thinking more of that old philosopher Epictetus, who I have previously talked about in this blog.
He said that the only things you control are what you say and what you do. Everything else is up to chance. To get angry at chance is like yelling at a mountain for being too tall.
Let it go.
Things will soon go your way. Or they won’t. Either way, your life will be much more livable if you don’t let the unchangeable things in life bug you. Who wants to have a heart attack about something you can do nothing about?
Keep sending stories. Keep writing books. Keep querying agents. Keep asking girls out. Keep running your practice.
It will work out. Or it won’t.
Either way, control those things you have control over–your acts and your thoughts.
Everything else is out of your reach.
Let it go.
